Sean Pattern and Pete Davies are both married, 40-something police officers serving with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.  When they’re not upholding law and order they enjoy motorbiking, among other things, and had often been out on the road together.  After one such trip they got talking about combining their passion for bikes with doing something for a good cause.

Pete explains: “What started off as idle chit chat in the canteen developed into a real desire to do something outstanding to make a difference to the world. We then heard about the Enduro Africa fundraising event and thought this would combine a personal challenge with delivering vital, life-saving aid to those in need.”

Sean adds: “Pete and I both love motorbikes and had often made short trips out and about and just got talking one day about trying to combine this with a worthwhile cause. The more we talked about it the more it seemed to gather a head of steam. We called our efforts Silly Way Round as there were similar links to Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s Long Way Round, the name sounds light hearted but we are really committed to making it happen. Once in your lifetime you have to do something that makes a difference and this is something which will have long-lasting benefits in very needy communities.”

Both of us would like to thank all those who are helping to make the trip possible. Once the trip is completed we hope to post videos of the handover onto this site.
