Whilst at De Montfort University studying for a BSc (Hons) in Sport Studies I was selected to play for the Bedford Blues Rugby Academy.
Having become injured I started using a gym for rehabilitation and strengthening work; this is where my love for the gym was first realised. After a few months of gym work I gained strength and was invited to compete in a bench press competition. In my first competition I qualified for the British championships which I went on to win, setting a new British record.
Funding from a De Montfort University Sports Scholarship helped me to further my training in powerlifting and receive regular sports massage. I subsequently broke British records in the junior U20 and U23 sections of the raw bench press.
After graduating in 2007 I pursued my enthusiasm for physiology in sport and enrolled at the North London School of Sports Massage to study Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy. I worked as a fitness instructor whilst studying at NLSSM.
My course required maintaining a regular client base to practise sports massage; I established a link with Colchester Rugby Club U19 team, who reached the quarter final of the National Cup.
I completed my BTEC Diploma in SRMT in 2008 and continue to work with various clients ranging from rugby, football, netball, running, duathlon, and fitness. I am currently training for Strongman as it offers variety and a different physical challenge to powerlifting.
